D-up

Malik Alexander had the play of the day on Monday with a finger-tip interception in zone coverage. Took it to the house, too.

As spring ball and the school year wind down, it is important to take care of grades and fund raising before the summer starts. Use tutoring and study hall to your advantage. Use the liftathon to raise money. Take care of business.

Those of you that are interested in the Golf Outing (Saturday June 20th at LaTourette Golf Course on Staten Island) send me an email and I will fill you in on all of the information.

There are 92 days until we play Midwood.

Consistency and Efficiency

Tech once again got in 3 practices without getting affected by the rain. The defensive practice was highlighted by some players coming through when challenged. Saiquone Selby was challenged and represented the secondary well by refusing to get beat on a wheel route and coming up with a great interception.

On offense, the run game is looking solid with Denzel McLarty and Tarrance Taylor.

Next Practice Monday.

Leverage

Tuesday's practice included some nice interceptions on defense, high tempo and the correction of earlier mistakes.

Tuesday focused on Leverage.

Leverage defined:
1. the action of a lever.
2. the mechanical advantage or power gained by using a lever.
3. power or ability to act or to influence people, events, decisions, etc.; sway:

Leverage can defeat strength.

“The greasiest leverage you can create for yourself is the pain that comes from inside, not outside. Knowing that you have failed to live up to your own standards for your life is the ultimate pain." - Unknown

I want to make note of the solid work being put in this spring by Abdul Jalil and Gavin Gratson, two rookies that have shown impressive work ethic.

Return of A-squared

A lot of spring ball talk has centered around the return of A-squared to the lineup after he sat out his junior season with a serious concussion. He is back, stronger than ever and ready to have his senior season be his best season. There is no denying that his presence on the field has been felt by his team and the coaching staff.

On Saturday, we also welcomed back Coach Pangia, Coach Haskins and Coach Levy and were visited by Mike Derice.

Due to the track meet, there were lots of reps for the skill guys and they took it in stride.

The lesson of the day was to have a purpose in mind and practice for that purpose. Realize that there is a reason that we do what we do.

A good fake goes a long way

Practice #4 was full of stretch plays and long balls. After a downfall of rain with thunder and lightning threatened an outside practice, the sky cleared and practice began.

Some nice long throws were completed to Mo Tayeh and Tamber Zaman.

The lesson learned is that the long ball on playaction means nothing if the fake is sloppy. A great fake creates the separation a receiver needs to break open.

Good tempo. Good practice. The rain won't stop us.

"Hungry is a word that I've been analyzing here of late. It's not hunger that drives me, it's not hunger that needs to drive our football team. Hunger and thirst are things that can be quenched. We have to be a driven group, we have to seek greatness." - Mike Tomlin, Pittsburgh Steelers

"Make Them Submit." - Coach Brown, Brooklyn Tech

Next practice Saturday 9am.

11 men on the ball carrier

A fired up Defensive practice on Tuesday with enthusiasm throughout. Practice was highlighted by a Raul Torres interception in perimeter that came off of a tip and pursuit drills at the end of practice with each group looking to out-swarm the other.

Lesson learned: If there are inexperienced players out there at practice, it is the job of the veterans to help them and explain things to them.

Spring Ball Starts

Brooklyn Tech's spring football season got off to a great start on Saturday May 2nd with a crisp 9am junior varsity practice and with the varsity players taking the field after many took the SAT. Some of the Varsity rookies were already showing the difference a year makes by getting after it right away, while the veterans were showing their leadership and commitment. The intensity, work ethic and enthusiasm were all there. Keep it up.

"The more you sweat in practice, the less you bleed on the battlefield."

Next practice Tuesday afternoon.
